Top Congressional Supporters of Scientific Research Funding
GEN released its 2015 Congressional Hall of Fame in June. The list, which features 10 representatives and 10 senators, focuses on members of Congress who have done the most to support federal spending for science research. While the 2013 list included 30 representatives and 20 senators, the criteria for inclusion has been tightened. The guidelines were revised to be as follows: "10 representatives recognized at least five times for their support of federal spending for research in biopharma and/or all sciences, and 10 senators similarly recognized at least six times." The compilation of awards and honors was put together through online searches of the members' biographies alongside those of announcements on organizations' web pages and of the organizations' records of past winners. Michigan's own Fred Upton is on the list of representatives. In alphabetical order, the list of representatives and senators is as follows:
