RPMI-1640 is an improved Mccoy's 5A medium. RPMI-1640 medium was originally designed for lymphocyte cell culture and today is a widely used media for the culture of normal and cancer cells, as well as suspension cells. This medium contains amino acids, vitamins, inorganic salts and other ingredients for cell culture, but does not contain protein, lipids or any growth factor. It should be used with serum or serum-free-additives.
