"... Aortas from 8–12-week-old Balb C mice were harvested and cultured in 3-dimensional collagen gels as previously described .... Aortic rings were dropped and positioned into wells of a 48-well plate containing 300 μL of collagen gel, 2.5% mouse serum (Innovative Research, Novi, MI, USA), and 1% pen/strep/amphotericin B mixture ... The cultures were kept at 37°C for 2 weeks, with the medium changed every second day, and gels were examined every other day by phase microscopy..."
